(Please note: the August dates listed in the Spring 2009/2010 printed brochure are incorrect)

Jungle in Ecuador graphic

For five years Lelis Navarete has been co-leading short Andes and Amazon tours that combine with our Galapagos tours. This will be our first full-length tour visiting all four major regions of Ecuador: the high Andes, East and West slopes of the Andes and the Amazon lowlands.

The landscapes are spectacular with 20,000-foot snowscapes and alpine lakes, lush cloud forests with rushing streams and waterfalls, and the towering Amazon forest where we paddle on oxbow lakes with abundant birdlife, caymans and monkeys. Classical bird families seen include toucans, macaws, motmots, contingas, manakins, quetzals, Jacamors, antbirds. ovenbirds, dozens of colorful tanagers and many more.

Most of our lodges have feeders and we'll see about 70 hummingbirds, which are easily photographed, Parks and areas we visit are Yanacocha, Bellavista, Mindo, Pedro Vicente Maldonado, and after a flight to Coca in the Amazon Basin, five nights at the excellent Napo Wildlife Center which supports an indigenous tribe.
